????

Im in the gym this morning. There is this girl there, probably in her 20s. I have seen her in there before and its always the same....she goes from one machine to the next, does ONE set on each, random machine(with very bad form) and READS A TABLOID MAGAZINE while doing each exercise!!! I was watching her go from a back machine to a shoulder machine to a leg machine.... I just dont get it!!! Why does this annoy me so badly???? I shouldn't care that she is totally just wasting her time...but it does! Actually i have seen so many people in the gym doing crazy shit...it boggles my mind....Now, please dont think that i think that im better than anyone there, because that is soo not the case...believe me, i have far to go and a lot more to learn....but at least my heart and my mind is in it while im there. Does anyone else see this? Does this bother anyone else? Or am i just crazy?

I see it, but mostly with youngsters. My gym doesn't adequately monitor young persons use.

Some even know they shoudn't be on the weights Machines, and when they see someone who's staff, they get off and pretend they weren't on the machines.

Others do awful things. They start bench pressing medicine balls at like 2 reps per second.

Or do Pulley Rows, with twice the weight and lean back about 70 degrees.

One I even caught Bench pressing a weight, got 3 reps, then made out as if he normally did more, but he wasn't well that time, or some stupid excuse to one of his friends, and I could hear him lying.

I did try to help one once, out of pity I guess, on a Hamstring machine, and after several attempts to stop him doing lightning fast reps, and go more smooth and controlled, he was still mixing his reps with quick, slow, jerky, and occasionally a good one, then complained he was tired, and left.

Later on when I was leaving, I went in the changing rooms, and saw him still there and he was giving me funny looks.

I think it's worse when some are using bad form, start using about 20lb's more than they should, then think adding another 20 is the way to go.

So I totally sympathise with you, and it's difficult not to intervene, or get a bit shirty and have a slight rant, because you don't want a 15 year old, to end you with a Back problem when they're 30.

It does boggle the mind, and I'd only be human if I spotted it, and thought what the heck is that kid doing, or something like that, but you just have to learn to largely ignore it, even if it is tempting to say something.

You're doing a brilliant job of your training, and you should be proud of yourself, and all you've done, so WELL DONE, and keep up the hard work.

:-) :-).

Matt

P.S. I would never think you had an I'm better than others, kind of attitude. I know you're not like that at all. You've got a really good Heart, and a lot of human warmth, and those are superb traits, that define you as not even close to being a snob.

I too find this maddening. I see it mostly with overweight women, and it makes me sad because I can tell what they want, and what they're doing won't get it for them! If you have 100 pounds to lose, don't plant yourself on the inner thigh machine! If everything's looking shapeless in your upper body, bicep curls with 5 pounds in each hand will not do the trick! And cardio of an intensity where you can read a novel? WORTHLESS!!!

Maybe I just need some blinders!

Oh no, it bugs me too...Like the guy at my gym that lifts in flip-flops (at least they finally told him he couldn't do that anymore), or the people using waaaay too much weight and can't complete the full movement. But when I go in the mid morning its almost all retired folks and I cut them some slack, they are getting some exercise but it's also social time for them.
