I dont even know where to begin....some already know...but yesterday i met with my posing coach and we had a looong talk about my show in 5 weeks. I wanted her honest opinion and we went over everything i was doing, etc. She really didnt want to answer me but i could tell that she thought i wasn't ready. I mean, i know im not ready, so an IFBB pro is definitely going to know. She said that i would probably be better off doing a show later in the summer or fall. I kinda knew it was coming. We were going over poses and i just saw my legs in the mirror....i still have so much "junk" that has to go. I am not going to step on that stage and embarrass myself by not being ready.
We went over everything i was eating and what my workout schedule was like, etc. She was saying that she didn't want to step on any toes of what my trainer was doing but she thought i was doing too much cardio that far out and that my eating was so strict being so far out too. So now im starting to get mixed feelings...am i doing something wrong? Should i be doing less?
She said that basically what i was doing was whatever muscle i was building i was destroying with all the cardio. She wasn't badmouthing Tony in any way, but she was kinda explaining to me that she would love to help me with my diet, my exercise, and everything. Now, what do i believe? Is what i am doing, and have been doing wrong? Is it because she is a woman with a big butt and legs like me, would she know better? She has been doing this for a long time...and so has Tony...but her seeing me in person, does that make a difference?
I want to talk with Tony and figure this out. I trust him, i do. But what if she can do something for me that he cant? I dont know this and i dont want to destroy something that i have been doing...because what if i decide to give her a chance and I leave him and i dont make any changes with her? I just feel totally confused by this whole thing. If i stay with Tony, then is she going to think bad of me and think that i dont want her help, and if i go with her and i have to explain this to Tony....how do i do that? I know they say i have to do what is best for me, but i dont know what is best for me. Honestly i dont. Part of me likes the fact that she sees me in person....but this is all a business....on both sides....they both are getting paid by me....so how do i figure this out????
Either way, i know im not ready for June 28th..which sucks...because i was kinda hoping i was...but i know i would just come in skinny....with no muscle....and i want more muscle.....and i know that takes time....so who do i give my time and money too?? That is the question.....

I feel your pain honey. I've been that confused too - because I have felt that I get a good amount of guidance/advice by my trainer and then there are 500 different approaches by reputable people online - BFL says only do 20 minutes of HIIT..people have made amazing transformations on that. Then, there are other experts that say that is a joke - I think (hopefully I'm saying the right names) that BFFM (Burn the Fat Feed the Muscle) says the opposite; do more cardio to burn more fat and eat enough to fuel your workouts. I bought that e-Book and then became a maniac trying to figure out my calories for this day and that day, stagger this, low cal here high cal here. Now I see all this stuff about Precision Nutrition and Turbulence Training - all with different opinions. It can be a nightmare trying to sort through it all. I love what my trainer is teaching me as far as weight training. I think - unfortunately or fortunately, that the diet part for fat loss is unique to each one of us. I'm trying to lose my "last 10lbs", it might be 15 - but all the fat is primarily on my side hips and upper thighs. It is clinging to me for dear life LOL. I've heard extra cardio, vary the cardio and then I've heard cut calories way low to 1200 and then many that say, that's crazy if you are weight training hard.....what I do know about me is that if I go on a highly restrictive diet of only protein and green vegies, I binge and lose my mind because I obsess over everything I cannot have.
I wish I had an answer for you, but I guess I just wanted to chime in and say I hear ya, because the same things frustrate me.
Personally I would go with your posing coach, lets weigh it up:
1. Shes been there 2. Shes know women 3. She is honest 4. She gets to see you in the flesh, so it is easier to guage your progress 5. She's coaching you anyway - so will get to know your body really well and can help.
Although, so many sucessful competitors use an online trainer and they do really well! I wouldn't want to knock something I have never tried. I just feel for me a more personal touch (in person) is the kind of trainer I need.
Either way, pick one person and trust them - follow them.
Build your lean mass first, Eat 6-7meals and or shakes, keep cardio reasonable (20-30mins) in the early stages (it always increases) But - too much too soon and you'll end up having to do 2 or 3 hours just to get a responce from your body (bodies adapt easily).
Sorry to be a 'busy body' Best of luck, don't worry, you seem to have the drive and detirmination for this and I tell ya, competing rocks! You will look stunning.
I've never been in your situation so I can only try to feel your frustration on this one. Although I would be leaning towards your posing coach, being a woman has a lot to do with it. We burn calories and build muscle much different than men and maybe she can do more for you to get you ready to compete. Don't worry about hurting someone's feelings, like you stated, they are both being paid and this is a business. Do what is best for you.
hey girlfriend,
i gotta disagree with these others. girl or no girl, it is about experience and knowledge. all of the best trainers in that sport, kim oddo, mike davies and even venuto-they are ALL online and produce champions and they don't see these girls in the flesh. tony has a track record that speaks for itself. does this woman have a record of people she has trained? forget about what she claims to have done for herself. every one has an angle. my two cents, tony is the man and no one comes close. she wants you as a client.
no matter wat though, i'm in your corner :) anywho, that's my two cents :)))
Angela,
This decision IS ultimately up to you. But, I have to agree with Mia on this. Tony has been doing this for many, many years. He has countless clients that are sucessful at pursuing their dreams and making them come true. I truly suggest you talk to him. Tell him everything. He is understanding and will hear you out. Have you not seen progress since your wedding? If he believes that the both of you can do it, then I wouldn't doubt him and I would train for the comp. I understand about your posing coach being a woman and being right there, but does she have the proof to show you she's had more success than Tony? In my humble opinion, I would hope that you talk to Tony, then think about it, then make a decision. And like Mia, whatever you decide I'm behind you all the way too!
hi Angela. I know you have been Stacey for a few weeks now..since May 4th. This was the first time she approached you on the diet /training because you asked her for her honest opinion and she gave it to you. She is trying to figure out why you have not made the progress you think you should have by now. To ensure you are not losing muscle you should start getting your bodyfat tested. If your bodyfat is going down then you know you are losing fat as the scale is dropping and not muscle.
It is true if you are not eating enough (this includes carbs) and doing alot of cardio your body will start going to the muscle for fuel. Talk to Tony and see what he says. Everyone has their own methods you have to go with which one works for you.
Hey
Angela I have tried many online trainers, all have been amazing ( well not all) but I have learned a lot from them I have worked with Kim Oddo in the past I got great results and had a sensible diet average cardio, I will admit that I preferred working with maggie Diubaldo in person it was more motivating I saw her every week told her what was hard easy and she would adjust and give me feedback. Tony is amazing at what he does the girls Tina April and Stacey prove that. The question is what do you want , what works for you. there is nothing wrong with trying other options but also be honest with yourself that you have been 100% with your program. also asks yourself if your program is doable for you! I don't want short term results, I could never nor do I want to do what april does, but she does because that is her goal.
I think if you are honest with yourself you already know the answer for yourself, we always do.
Just don't give up on your goals.
Okay and here's my opinion :)....number one your doing tons of cardio and your diet is super strict because you told Tony you wanted to do a show in June. There's only one way to get rid of the fat to get you ready that quick and that lot's of cardio and a super strict diet. Are you going to lose muscle??? You betchya. But it's what you wanted. Now, number two....when I went to my posing lesson it was not good. They all(at least I felt) looked at me like I shouldn't be there. There was one guy in paticular that made me feel HORRIBLE(asked me how old I was and when I said 33 he said yep, that's when it all starts falling apart). He had all kinds of advice and told me Tony didn't know what he was talking about(basically). I left there and never went back. I followed Tony's advice to the T and learned to pose on my own. When I went to the show, this same guy came up and gave me a hug and couldn't believe how amazing I looked. The other girls that were there at the posing thing with me didn't even COME CLOSE to my conditioning. I was the one looked at last...yet I'm the one that came in first :)
I know your decision now but i'm behind you 100% :)
I'm with April...you made the right decision :) You better be fired up again...are you getting pissed yet...and I disagree about losing muscle with the cardio, you are protecting it by eating enough protein...it might just look like it's lost cause of the low carbs, it'll be better than ever the day of comp...that's if you don't get your period and have it all lost under water :)
